SGIA Children's Choir Triumphs at World Choir Games - Auckland 2024

The SGIA Children's Choir showcased their exceptional talent and dedication at the World Choir Games in Auckland from July 10-20, 2024. Competing on an international stage, they participated in two categories: C1 - Young Children's Choir and C27 - Folklore and Indigenous Music with Accompaniment. With the strong guidance of our Musical Director Mr Daniel Dasalak and supporting coaches; Mr Martomo Wahyudianto, Ms Giovanni Silviana Gultom, and Ms Monique Simanjuntak, our pianist David Gianfranco Rangga, their performances earned them a gold medal in the Young Children's Choir category and a silver medal in the Folklore and Indigenous Music category, marking a significant achievement for the choir.

The World Choir Games, often regarded as the pinnacle of choral competitions, featured choirs from diverse cultural backgrounds, each bringing their unique musical styles. For our young choir members, this event was more than just a competition; it was an opportunity to immerse themselves in a rich tapestry of global choral traditions, learning from their peers and gaining invaluable experience.

C1 - Young Children's Choir category, the SGIA Children's Choir delivered a stunning performance that captivated both the judges and the audience. Their harmonious voices, impeccable technique, and vibrant stage presence earned them the highest honor, a gold medal. The judges praised their emotional expressiveness and the unity of their sound, noting that their performance stood out as a highlight of the competition.

The choir's success continued in the C27 - Folklore and Indigenous Music with Accompaniment category. Here, they performed traditional songs with authentic instruments, showcasing the cultural heritage and musical traditions they hold dear. Their dedication to preserving and presenting these traditions was evident in their performance, which earned them a silver medal. The judges were impressed by their musicality, authenticity, and the depth of their cultural expression.

This dual success is a testament to the hard work, dedication, and passion of the SGIA Children's Choir. It reflects the countless hours of practice, the unwavering support of their families and community, and the expert guidance of their choir director. Winning both a gold and a silver medal at such a prestigious event is a remarkable achievement that brings immense pride to the SGIA community.

Participating in the World Choir Games has been a transformative experience for our young singers. They return home not only with medals but with a deeper understanding of the power of music to connect people across cultures. As we celebrate their success, we look forward to more opportunities for our choir to shine and continue their journey of musical excellence.
