SGIA’s Jozsua Lumunon, Wins at Asia Pacific Arts Festival

Asia Pacific Arts Festival aims to pursue harmony, peace and global friendship through diversified cultural exchange, team buildings, workshops and performing arts competition. Delegates various Asian Countries like China, Indonesia, Korea, Singapore, Philippines, Malaysia, Vietnam and Cambodia participate in this event. The festival also has the mission to encourage youth participants to nurture and cultivate the unity and peace through love for the arts.

As music is the language of the world, it can be a very powerful instrument to bring people together and inspire them to act on behalf of the vulnerable, such as the refugees, children and war victims.

This year, the festival was held in Kuala Lumpur from January 26-29, 2018 to honor and remember the refugees all over the world and to raise awareness about real human experiences through the talents and skills of musicians and artists.

Honored and inspired by the mission of this festival, our very own student – Luke Jozsua Danneil Lumunon from Grade 1B Class joined the competition among 275 contestants with his drum playing and version of ENTERSANDMAN by Metallica. Being the youngest competitor, he is inspired to hone his talent and aim to win with his natural skills. Yes, he felt nervous before the contest and admitted that he also expected to win the contest. He won GOLD Award as First Prize to other contestants who also played several musical instruments like violin, piano, guitar, ukulele, mandolin and other performances.

He has started rehearsing since November 2017 with his Coach Thoms Erson and is fully supported by his fun-loving parents, Mr. Louis Lumunon and Dr. Gina Frances Rotty.

This coming March 2018, he will be joining the Asia Pacific Arts Festival in Jakarta, Indonesia and in July 2018, he will once again compete at Singapore. He plans to play the drum music of Guns and Roses entitled, ‘Welcome to the Jungle’ and ‘Master of Puppets’ by Metallica.

As asked why he likes this type of music; he feels energized and revitalized every time. “I want to inspire the kids like me to appreciate music since it is fun. I like to practise so well everyday so I can be the BEST.”

His very own Music Teacher at Sekolah Global Indo-Asia claims that “Jozsua has a great sense of musicality. He is able to play at least three instruments well. He plays djembe by following the notes and creating his own. He demonstrates stable skills with his left and right hands when playing the drums. He is also able to play the piano by following the teacher's instructions”.

Thank you so much Jozsua for making us proud and we wish you all the best for your upcoming contests. Indeed, you are an inspiration and we hope that you are always motivated with everything that you do.
